Norris Unfazed by Austria Clash, Gears Up for Silverstone Showdown with Verstappen

Heading into his home race with confidence, Norris believes he can beat Verstappen, having rattled the Dutchman last Sunday to the point where a crash caused both drivers to suffer punctures.

Lando Norris declared he wouldn’t change a thing about how he battled Max Verstappen in Austria, despite the collision that ended his race.

The McLaren star anticipates more thrilling battles with his Red Bull rival, beginning this weekend at Silverstone.

Heading into his home race with confidence, Norris believes he can beat Verstappen, having rattled the Dutchman last Sunday to the point where a crash caused both drivers to suffer punctures.

Norris is eager to challenge Verstappen again, this time with the full support of the Silverstone crowd. “I’m very excited for the British Grand Prix,” he said on the Chris Moyles Show.

“But yeah, at the same time I reviewed everything, we’ve gone over stuff, and let’s say I won’t really change what I did. I was fighting, and that’s what we want – we want to fight.”

He added, “We don’t want to complain, we don’t want things to end like they did, both from Max’s side and from my side.

“So, that’s life sometimes.

We’re fighting, we both want to win and we’re going to push it to the limits – some slightly more than others.

But yeah, at the same time, I’m excited. We’re going to have more fights together, and I look forward to those times.”

Norris will be one of three Britons heading into the race with the belief that he can deliver the result the home crowd craves.

That costly fight with Verstappen at the Red Bull Ring allowed George Russell to win an F1 race for only the second time in his career.

Meanwhile, Mercedes chief Toto Wolff is confident that his other driver, Lewis Hamilton, can win again before he leaves for Ferrari at the end of the year.

Hamilton’s victory drought stretches back to December 2021, and despite finishing fourth in Austria, he felt he had been “pretty shocking” over the weekend.

However, Silverstone could be the place for Hamilton to regain his best form.

This weekend will mark his 18th participation in the British GP, where he holds the record for the most wins by a single driver with eight.

Hamilton is also in the midst of a remarkable streak of 10 consecutive podium finishes, maintained despite Mercedes’ struggles over the last two seasons.

He won every British GP between 2014 and 2021, except in 2018 when Sebastian Vettel beat him by two seconds.

He finished third in 2022 and repeated the feat last year, joining Norris and Verstappen on the podium.

Wolff remarked on his team’s chances, saying, “On track, the battle at the front is tight. We will have to be at our best to challenge for the podium once again.

“That is our aim, though, and we are excited for the challenge.”
