Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton has said he is “gutted” and “devastated” that he won’t be racing at this weekend’s Sakhir Grand Prix.
Hamilton tested positive for COVID-19 after displaying mild symptoms on Monday, and, as per FIA protocols, he will have to self-isolate for a minimum of ten days and will therefore miss the second race of the double-header at Bahrain.

The Brit took to Instagram to issue a statement on this shocking development.
“I’m devastated that I won’t be racing this weekend. Since we started the season in June my team and I have been taking all the precautions we possibly can and following the regulations everywhere we’ve been to stay safe.
“Unfortunately, even though I returned three negative results this past week, I woke up yesterday morning with mild symptoms and requested another test, which came back positive.
“I’ve immediately gone into self-islolation for ten days.
“I am gutted not to be able to race this weekend but my priority is to follow the protocols and advice to protect others. I’m really lucky that I feel ok with only mild symptoms and will do my best to stay fit and healthy,” he added.
Continuing, he urged everyone to be careful to minimise the spread of the virus:
“Please look after yourselves out there. You can never be too careful.
“These are worrying times for everyone and we need to make sure we are looking after ourselves and each other. Stay positive.”
Mercedes are yet to announce who will replace Lewis Hamilton at this weekend’s Sakhir GP.
The Silver Arrows have two reserve drivers, namely Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez.
However, it should be noted that Gutierrez no longer holds a Super Licence, so he won’t be allowed to compete in an F1 Championship event.
