Steiner Isn’t ‘Angry’ At Grosjean & Magnussen For Exploring Options

With many drivers in the mix for Haas’ two seats, there’s a good chance Grosjean and Magnussen won’t be at the team next year.

Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner has said he has no issue with his existing drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen, talking to other teams and exploring their options for 2021.

Speaking ahead of the Eifel Grand Prix, Steiner said: “You [Grosjean and Magnussen] will have a look around because everyone does.

“I’m not angry either. If you talk to someone and check availability, you are not yet committed.

“You will talk to other racing teams, other people. At least that’s what I hope they do. That’s what they have these people [managers] for.

“I’m not angry when they talk to others. And I’ll tell them whether they stay or not.”

Formula Two driver Callum Ilott has been strongly linked with Haas for the 2021 F1 season, but Steiner recently said the British driver isn’t currently on their shortlist, as he’s part of the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA).

“He’s not on the list because he’s a Ferrari driver. He’s their driver, so therefore he’s not on the list,” Steiner said.

“I don’t know what they’re doing with him, what they’re planning with him and so on. Therefore at the moment, he’s not on the list.

“I have a lot of respect for him because he’s second in the F2 championship which means he’s pretty good,” he added.

Ilott was poised to make his F1 weekend debut with Haas on Friday at the Nurburgring, but poor weather conditions prevented the medical helicopter from taking off and resulted in the first two practice sessions of the weekend being cancelled.
