Sergio Perez & Hulkenberg Are Potential Options For Red Bull – Marko

At the moment, Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg are without seats on the F1 grid for 2021.

Speaking after the eventful Eifel Grand Prix, Helmut Marko, head of Red Bull’s driver development programme, said Alex Albon “has to perform” if he wants to keep his seat at the Milton Keynes-based team.

“Albon has to perform, then he stays. He did a good job at the Nurburgring, but we will look at this further,” Marko said.

Continuing, he noted that both Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez are on the market and would be happy to join Red Bull Racing if given the opportunity.

“Be outside our own selection, Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez are both available.

“I don’t really believe that anyone within three tenths of Max Verstappen can come. On good days, Albon can do that too,” the Austrian added, downplaying rumours that Red Bull is looking to replace the Thai driver.

Despite Marko expressing his satisfaction with Albon’s performance at the Eifel GP, to everyone else it looked like one of his worst performances at Red Bull.

In fact, it was such a poor showing from Alex Albon that following the race, there were renewed calls for Red Bull to promote Pierre Gasly and demote Albon back to Scuderia AlphaTauri.
