Haas Reportedly Close To Signing Nikita Mazepin For 2021

Nikita Mazepin’s father, Dmitry, is reportedly interested in buying the Haas F1 team.

Russian Formula Two driver Nikita Mazepin is set to sign a contract with the Haas F1 team for 2021, according to French broadcaster Canal Plus.

However, team principal Guenther Steiner recently said he is yet to make a decision about the American racing outfit’s driver line-up for 2021.

Last month, the team said they are considering around ten drivers for next year, including rookies and drivers who are already in Formula One.

And now, when asked if Nikita Mazepin is in with a shot of landing a Haas seat, Steiner didn’t rule this possibility out.

“It is a very good year for drivers in F2 and of course Mazepin is one of those drivers. So why wouldn’t he be on the shortlist?” Steiner replied.

Earlier this month, amid reports that Russian billionaire Dmitry Mazepin was looking to buy the constructor, Haas told Formula1News.co.uk that “the team is not for sale.”

Callum Ilott, another driver who is competing in F2 this year, is also on Haas’ radar and could soon land a seat on the Formula One grid.
