Sebastian Vettel has thrown his support behind Mick Schumacher, encouraging his return to Formula 1 with the new Cadillac team, which is set to join the grid in 2026.
Support from a Champion
The four-time world champion recently spoke out about Schumacher’s potential comeback, saying, “I wish him well. We’re in contact, of course, and I also saw how his time in Formula 1 ended.”

Vettel remains confident that the 26-year-old still has what it takes. “I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he gets another chance because I believe he can absolutely keep up with the others,” he added.
Schumacher has since found form in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine, and Vettel believes the German is in a better place now. “He is much more mature, and I think he is doing a very good job at Alpine. It would be nice if he gets a second chance at Cadillac.”
The Road Back After Haas Exit
Once touted as the next big name in F1, Schumacher entered the sport after winning the 2020 F2 championship. But his two-year stint at Haas yielded only 12 points, leading to his release at the end of 2022.
He then spent two seasons as a reserve driver at Mercedes before stepping away at the end of 2024 to focus on his WEC campaign with Alpine. Despite this shift, he has stayed close to the F1 paddock and was recently seen at the Miami Grand Prix.
Cadillac Eyes Multiple Options
Cadillac’s entry into the sport in 2026 has generated a lot of buzz, but their driver lineup remains unconfirmed. While one seat is expected to go to an American — with Colton Herta heavily linked — Schumacher is reportedly being considered for the other alongside Sergio Perez and Daniel Ricciardo.
With team advisor Mario Andretti reportedly impressed by Schumacher in recent discussions, his F1 return is far from impossible.
