Red Bull has affirmed that Max Verstappen’s decision to stay with the team will hinge on performance rather than financial incentives, despite speculation about his future amid Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari.
Verstappen, a three-time Formula 1 champion, remains contracted to Red Bull until 2028, encompassing two seasons under the forthcoming regulations.
Helmut Marko, speaking to Servus TV, stated, “As in every Formula 1 contract, there are clauses if certain success quality criteria are not met.
“These are also included in Max’s contract.”

Marko emphasised that substantial financial offers are unlikely to sway Verstappen if Red Bull fails to provide him with a competitive car, asserting, “I don’t think an incomprehensible amount of money is an issue for Max.”
The uncertainty surrounding Hamilton’s vacant seat at Mercedes for 2025 leaves options open for Red Bull’s future planning.
While Fernando Alonso is among the high-profile contenders, Mercedes may opt for a younger talent.
Moreover, the 2026 regulations could potentially alter the competitive landscape, challenging Red Bull’s dominance.
Meanwhile, Red Bull faces decisions for the upcoming season, with Sergio Perez’s contract expiring and various replacement options on the table.
Marko clarified, “Perez still has a contract for 2024: it’s up to him.”
Regarding Daniel Ricciardo’s potential return to the main team, Marko remarked, “Ricciardo has to show that he has [Yuki] Tsunoda clearly under control.
Then he might be a candidate.” Marko suggested that considerations for these decisions could be finalised after the summer break.
