Mick Schumacher Reveals Binotto Gave Him The Good News

Mick Schumacher said becoming an F1 driver has always been “the big goal” for him.

On Wednesday, after months of speculation linking Mick Schumacher to the Haas F1 Team, it was announced that the German would be driving for the American racing outfit next year.

In an interview hot on the heels of the announcement, Schumacher revealed that it was Mattia Binotto, the team principal of Scuderia Ferrari, who gave him the good news, not Haas team principal Guenther Steiner.

Schumacher said he found out that he would be a Haas F1 driver “not that much earlier than most of the world.”

Continuing, he said: “I got the call from Mattia [Binotto], it got confirmed and it’s just great.”

Mick Schumacher is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and it has long been speculated that at least one Ferrari junior driver would join Haas next year, given the two team’s technical partnership.

Schumacher currently leads the Formula Two Championship and will be looking to clinch the title before shifting his focus to joining the F1 grid in 2021.
