Mercedes Mock Themselves Over Pitstop Blunder At Sakhir GP Which Ruined George Russell’s Race

The Mercedes F1 Team blew away a comfortable 1-2 at last weekend’s Sakhir Grand Prix, costing George Russell his maiden victory in Formula One.

Last weekend’s race at Sakhir was a race to forget for the Mercedes F1 Team, with a double pitstop blunder costing the Silver Arrows a 1-2 finish.

George Russell looked set to win the race, but he had to make an extra pitstop after the team put a mixed set of tyres on his Mercedes W11.

Russell recovered to P2 and was closing in on Sergio Perez, but disaster struck again, with him picking up a slow puncture and coming in for yet another pitstop.

Valtteri Bottas’ race was also affected by a mistake in the pits which forced the team to send him back out on the same set of used hard-compound tyres.

On Wednesday, just days after the race in Bahrain, Mercedes poked fun at themselves on social media.

“Someone asked us to post the pit stops from Sunday on our Instagram Reels. But Reels can only be 30s. Sorry,” Mercedes F1 wrote in a tweet.

This evoked a mixed reaction on social media, with some F1 fans appreciating the self-burn, while others felt it was insensitive to joke about the blunder as it denied George Russell his first-ever victory in Formula One.
