2020 was undoubtedly a difficult campaign for four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel, but the German has a great opportunity to remind the F1 world what he’s capable of at Aston Martin Racing next season.
A number of pundits and members of the paddock have already tipped Vettel to succeed with his new team – and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has now also said he believes he will benefit from leaving Ferrari.
“I hope he makes a good start,” Wolff told the RTL broadcaster this week.
“Sebastian needed one thing above all else: a change of scenery. If you get more and more into a negative spiral in your team, then you need to make a change. That is what he has done,” the Austrian added.
Continuing, Wolff said he “expects a lot” from Vettel this year and insisted his lack of success at Ferrari wasn’t entirely his fault.
“I don’t think he didn’t perform, but it was the general conditions that got worse and worse.”
