With fans descending on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend for the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix, two fans sought to ensure they will never forget their visit to the track.
With the pitlane open for visitors ahead of the race, a boyfriend got one knee to pop the question to his lucky girlfriend outside reigning world champion Max Verstappen’s garage.
Looking overjoyed, she said yes before kissing her now fiancé, as those in the surrounding garages applauded the young couple, guaranteeing they will remember this moment for the rest of their lives.
“Something else that is very exciting is this young couple who just got engaged, hoping a bit of the old Max magic will rub off on them because he popped the question just outside Max’s garage earlier on,” Sky Sports presenter Natalie Pinkham said.
“That is one she will remember. Quite romantic.”
“It is quite romantic. I mean they love motorsport and they were here for this. She looked very happy. She clearly said yes,” former race car driver Naomi Schiff added. “Congratulations to them.”
Max Verstappen was a dominant force at the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix, with him taking pole and winning the race by a dominant margin.
He has now further extended his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship over Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez, while Mercedes jumped Aston Martin in the Constructors’ Championship.
The Silver Arrows brought more upgrades to Barcelona, and the W14 now appears to be the second-fastest car, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell scoring a double podium for the team.
Meanwhile, Aston Martin and Ferrari struggled in Barcelona, but it remains to be seen if their troubles are track-specific.
