The Scuderia has said it is confident that it has taken a step forward and should be more competitive at power-hungry circuits this upcoming season than it was in 2020.

After driving Alfa Romeo’s 2021 challenger, the C41, during pre-season testing at Bahrain, Kimi Raikkonen said the new Ferrari power unit appears to be better than its predecessor, but he stressed that it’s difficult to estimate where that leaves them as the other engine manufacturers have also developed their packages.

“I am sure they’ve [Ferrari] made progress, and it’s better,” Raikkonen said.

“But then you would expect that the other manufacturers have also improved. But yeah, comparing what we had last year, it is in a better position.

“We’ll have to wait to see where it is once the racing stars, but it’s definitely helpful for us.”

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc had similar thoughts, saying: “Everything feels quite good, but again, it’s very difficult to comment now.”

“So, for now it’s early days but everything feels good and it stacks up with what we expected.”
