‘Can I take your order?’ KFC mock Wolff and Mercedes after hilarious picture surfaces

It is doubtful that anyone had a KFC appearance on their Formula 1 bingo card ahead of the 2022 season.

KFC had a brilliant response to Mercedes when they came up with a hilarious caption for the image of Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff peeping his head through the halo on George Russell’s car.

Russell qualified ninth for the Bahrain Grand Prix in the opening race weekend of the 2022 season, a second behind Sir Lewis Hamilton and seven tenths adrift of his Mercedes predecessor and now Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas.

The Briton would eventually end the grand prix fourth behind Hamilton, and an image then surfaced after the weekend of Wolff checking in on the 24-year-old as he settled into his car on the grid before the race, leading to some hilarious responses from fans.

“You’d better beat Bottas or I’m sending you to the Renault Clio Cup,” said one user, referring to the 50-year-old’s comments following last year’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix when he compared Russell’s driving to that standard after he collided with Bottas.

Another said: “George, mum said it’s my turn to sit in the car,” prompting KFC’s surprise crossover into the motorsport world.

They likened the image to a drive-through, captioning it “welcome to KFC, can I take your order?”

Of the peculiar things to stem from the first race of the season, the fast-food chain wading into F1, and the Mercedes team expressed their confoundment, replying with “we were not expecting this.”

Mercedes spent much of pre-season and the weekend in Sakhir expressing concerns about their performance due to the “porpoising” and handling issues posed by the new technical regulations, and Hamilton obtained a podium finish after Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez retired due to mechanical failures.

As they attempt to discern exactly what their issues are, the podium will have come as somewhat of a shock to the Brackley side, and KFC used this as ammunition for a brilliant roast of Mercedes.

“Just like you weren’t expecting podium on the weekend,” was their response, and with no comeback available for the genius shot, Mercedes posted an image of their social admin laying on the floor, putting his thumb up in recognition of an outstanding riposte.

Trackside engineer Andrew Shovlin has stated since Bahrain that the Mercedes team have found some resolutions to the fundamental issues affecting Mercedes, and some of them could be available as early as this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
