Aston Martin Racing team principal Otmar Szafnauer has said it is a shame that they couldn’t run Sergio Perez as one of their drivers in 2021.
Perez, who recently signed a deal with Red Bull Racing for 2021, was under contract with Racing Point for next season but the team opted to axe him to make way for outgoing Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.

Commenting on Sergio Perez’s move to Red Bull, Szafnauer said the Mexican is worthy of a top seat in Formula One.
“I wish Checo well, he has been a part of the family for a long time,” the Aston Martin Racing team principal told GPFans.com.
“He deserves a drive in Formula 1. He has exemplified and illustrated recently what he can do on a racetrack and it is unfortunate that you can’t have three drivers but that is our sport.”
Continuing, Szafnauer said he hopes Aston Martin Racing will be able to compete with Red Bull next season despite them narrowly missing out on third in the 2020 Constructors’ Championship.
“We wish him well and hopefully, we can race against him. It will be our goal to make sure he is behind us,” Szafnauer concluded.
