Alfa Romeo Planning To Soon Finalise 2021 Driver Line-Up

The team has said Raikkonen is their first choice, but he’s yet to make a decision about his future in Formula One.

Alfa Romeo is planning on confirming its driver line-up for the 2021 season soon, with the team set to hold discussions with Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi this month.

“In [over] the course of September, we will have the discussion with our drivers about next year and then we will decide together what we have to do. For sure now we have plenty of drivers available on the list,” team boss Frederic Vasseur said.

He stressed that they want to retain Raikkonen, but he is yet to decide if he wants to stay in Formula One beyond 2020.

“Yeah, sure, but if we are all interested to collaborate and the collaboration is good, it will make sense to continue,” Vasseur replied when asked it Alfa Romeo wants to extend Raikkonen’s contract.

He added that they are waiting for Raikkonen to make a decision before they explore the possibility of signing other drivers, particularly the young talent from the Ferrari Driver Academy, such as F2 drivers Mick Schumacher, Callum Ilott, and Robert Shwartzman.
