Watch: Lewis Hamilton reacts to fans’ comments

2022 was statistically the worst Formula 1 season in Lewis Hamilton's career, with the Brit claiming his lowest result in the Drivers' Championship.

Lewis Hamilton isn’t a regular feature on social media, with the seven-time World Champion having posted to his socials considerably less over recent years, with online abuse having become the huge issue that it currently is.

However, when he does post content via Twitter or, most commonly, Instagram, it commonly involves the thing that “lightens up my day” – Formula 1 fans.

Hamilton typically receives huge welcomes across the world, with the 103-time Grand Prix winner certainly being a fan favourite at home in the United Kingdom and across the pond in the United States.

His fans have certainly stuck by his side in 2022, a year which saw the 37-year-old fail to claim either a pole position or a victory, marking the first season in his F1 career where that has happened.

With that in mind, Hamilton reacted to some messages from his fans on Mercedes’ YouTube channel, with one fan in particular thanking the Stevenage-born driver for “lighting up even the darkest days”.

“Thanks Lewis, you light up even the darkest days and you always give me strength to hope for a better future. You are really special,” wrote GiorgiaLicata26.

“Thank you Giorgia,” Hamilton replied.

“The thing is you guys lighten up my day, and I think that’s what we are supposed to do for each other right?” Hamilton questioned.

“We’re supposed to try and lift each other up, and I’m not always able to do it, I’m not always able to be positive but I try to be each day and I think that’s the thing. But I couldn’t do what I do without your support, so this means a lot to me.”

Later in the video, another fan called Hamilton the greatest Formula 1 driver of all-time, something he statistically is.

“Thanks, Leo. I appreciate that dude,” Hamilton said after reading the fan comment in question.

“You know it’s a conscious decision for people to decide to choose somebody to support.

“And I’m so appreciative of that and I’m really aware of that. So your support as I said, you know for everyone that’s what gets me through the year.”
