Valtteri Bottas reveals Sebastian Vettel story

Sebastian Vettel has retired from Formula 1, bowing out with a total of four world championship titles to his name.

The Formula 1 grid lost one the best drivers of all time at the end of 2022, as Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel closed the curtain on his illustrious career.

The German won four world championship titles during his time at Red Bull, before less successful moves to Ferrari and Aston Martin rounded off his career.

The German was not necessarily a popular figure during his time with Red Bull and Ferrari as he fought with British hero Lewis Hamilton for F1 glory.

In the latter stages of his career Vettel became a fan favourite in the sport, becoming heavily involved in campaigning for environmental change and looking to help anyone he could in any way possible.

The 35-year-old has claimed that he decided to retire so he could focus more of his energy to these other interests outside of F1, alongside wanting to spend more time with his family.

Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas has now shared a personal anecdote about one of his encounters with Vettel, suggesting that the German’s mindset has changed since the start of his racing career.

“We were on the same flight from Mexico to Santiago because I was going to Argentina and he said he was going to Patagonia,” began the Finn, per GPFans.

“He was there, just him and his backpack alone. He went there for 10 days of hiking. I don’t think he would’ve done that ten years ago.

“His views of life has changed quite a bit, and it’s pretty cool to see how vocal he is about things, that he’s really pushing for a more sustainable future and everything, using his voice.”

Vettel has not been afraid to speak out about issues which he feels strongly about, even wearing a custom helmet to the Canadian Grand Prix in protest against environmental crimes in the country.

Bottas and the other drivers on the grid have recently been urged by Nico Rosberg to follow Vettel’s example and use their large followings on social media to make a positive difference in the world.

Lando Norris has begun speaking about mental health wherever possible, claiming that he has been inspired by the retiring German to use his popularity and exposure to make a positive impact on worldwide issues that affect so many around the world.
