Never before in the history of the Grand Prix has there been such dominance.
In 2014, the main advantage of the car was its “strength”, which will be discussed later. Now, however, this advantage was improved aerodynamics, which did not require such serious power from the car to achieve victory. For the most part, this was a forced decision, which was reflected in the statistics of victories after 2017. Nevertheless, the new aerodynamics can be included on a par with other innovations of this decade. Development of these machines was engaged by James Ellison, and he can safely say that at least three of his developments from 2010 to 2019 can be included in the top 10 best cars.
Without a doubt, the Briton has made one of the biggest contributions of recent years to technological progress in this area, and therefore is quite worthy of the title of automotive genius.
Second Place: “Red Bull” RB6, RB7, RB8 and RB9 (2010-2013)
The beginning of the last decade began with the complete defeat of the previous champions – Ferrari and McLaren. The culprit for this was a well-known sponsor of sports competitions – Red Bull. The team led by Helmut Marko and Christian Horner were able to design a unique car, the main advantage was the rear axle, which generated an enormous amount of downforce and allowed them to win more than half of the races of the next 4 years, until the moment when it came into play ” Mercedes”.
The growth in the number of technologies and tools for their implementation is reflected in the fact that technological competition in racing is now more active than ever, and now everything can change in an instant.
First Place: “Mercedes W05, W06 and W07 (2014-2016)
As mentioned above, in 2014 Mercedes took the title of champion, and the cars of the next few years can be called almost perfect. This is due to the fact that the engineers of the cannery were the first to switch to the development of a “turbo hybrid”, which allowed their cars to seriously break away from their rivals. This period can be called total domination. Why? The fact is that Ferrari in their best years had 67% of wins in all races, Red Bull – 53%. Mercedes scored 86.4% of wins. After 2017, this statistic changed for the worse, and if in 2014-2017 the number of wins reached 58, then only 38. That is why later cars are in third place.
