Sky Sports F1 customers were far from happy with the UK broadcaster Thursday evening, after attempting to tune in to the Miami Grand Prix drivers’ press conference.
For those that attempted to watch the press conference as scheduled at 8pm (GMT), they were instead met with highlights of F1 Academy’s inaugural weekend at the Red Bull Ring, Austria.
According to Sky’s schedule, the highlights package was due to air at 9pm after the live Miami GP press conference, whereas it instead started at 8pm.
Weirdly, a pre-recorded TV package with Alpine duo Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly then aired on Sky Sports F1 after the F1 Academy highlights, before the press conference was suddenly aired to UK viewers at 8:30pm.

Only UK customers affected
Only Sky UK customers appeared to be affected by the error, though, with the broadcaster’s European channels having shown the Miami GP press conference right on time.
It didn’t take long for angry customers to vent their anger on Twitter, with many having called for an explanation as to what went wrong.
@chelsgrange said: “Went to put the drivers press conference on Sky Sports and it’s not on, it’s just about the F1 academy? Is anyone else in the same boat?”
@Sarah_Curse added: “Umm excuse me Sky Sports, but where is the Drivers Press Conference??”
Another customer, @big_m-0906 commented: “Where’s the press conference is F1 academy not on after.” @F1fanfan1 remarked: “Where is the drivers press conference? I’m watching F1 academy show??”
One Sky customer stated they’d seen the Alpine TV package “500 times already”.

“I turned on sky sports f1 to watch & i’m currently watching Pierre & Esteban karting that i’ve seen 500 times already,” claimed @taraaobrienx.
@AshFullStop12 wrote: “Sooo is Sky Sports F1 actually showing the Drivers Press Conference tonight? First the Formula Academy documentary and now one about Pierre and Esteban?”
It’s not the first time that Sky have infuriated their customers this season, with several fans having seen the result of the Australian Grand Prix after tuning in to what they thought were the highlights of the race, whereas instead it was extended live coverage due to the red flag mess that unfolded in the closing laps.
