Sergio Perez comments on Max Verstappen ‘respect’ while criticising Red Bull

Max Verstappen has been the dominant force at Red Bull once again this year, with Sergio Perez languishing behind him.

Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez has heaped praise on his teammate Max Verstappen for his exceptional ability to perform consistently well, even in the face of a challenging car setup.

As Verstappen inches closer to securing his third world drivers’ championship in Qatar, the Mexican driver expressed admiration for his teammate’s remarkable achievements in this Formula 1 season.

Verstappen’s dominant run has been nothing short of spectacular.

With a possibility of clinching the championship during the upcoming sprint race before the Grand Prix on Sunday, the Dutch prodigy seems unstoppable.

Notably, Verstappen recently shattered Sebastian Vettel’s record with nine consecutive race wins, further solidifying his claim as the top contender.

Despite Red Bull Racing facing difficulties in car balance and performance, Max Verstappen’s remarkable consistency has not gone unnoticed by his teammate, Sergio Perez.

Perez, in an interview with Canal+, highlighted Verstappen’s ability to deliver outstanding laps regardless of the car’s complexities.

“Max manages to perform well even with a complicated car, in all conditions,” Perez stated.

“I have great respect for him.

“He manages to put in a good lap with any car, whether it has problems with balance or not.

“That’s what makes him unique.

“At the moment, he’s driving better than anyone else on the grid.”

While Perez’s own season has seen its fair share of challenges and unfortunate results, he currently maintains a solid second place in the drivers’ championship standings.

However, Lewis Hamilton is rapidly closing in, trailing Perez by a mere 33 points and occupying the third position.

The stakes are high in the final six races of the season as Perez aims to secure his second-place finish in the championship.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix, Perez emphasised the importance of finishing the season on a high note.

“I think all the drivers in here want to get the best possible season,” Perez remarked.

“And more than that, to me, it’s very important to finish the season on a high because that only helps the start of next year.

“So, to me, it’s very important to get on top of it and make sure that we are able to deliver in the next six races.”
