Portuguese GP Qualifying Delayed After Drain Cover Damaged

The drain cover was damaged by the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel in Free Practice Three (FP3.)

Qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix has been delayed by 30 minutes after a drain cover at the Algarve International Circuit became loose.

Q1 will get underway at 2:30PM (BST), as per the latest FIA guidance which may be subject to further delays.

The drain cover was damaged after Sebastian Vettel drove over it in his Ferrari SF1000 in the final practice session of the weekend.

Marshalls are removing drain covers around the circuit and filling the holes with a “quick-drying resin” to remove the safety risk.
