Perez On His F1 Future: I’m In A Good Position, Won’t Make Decision Immediately

The highly rated Mexican driver has said he is keen on staying in Formula One.

Outgoing Racing Point driver Sergio Perez has said he is surprised by the number of F1 seats which are still available for 2021, adding that he won’t rush his next move.

”I am in a good position and am quite surprised with the options that are still open. However, I do not want to rush it,” Perez said ahead of this weekend’s Tuscan Grand Prix.

Continuing, he said, “I want to see what options are available and then make my decision. I don’t expect to do that in the short term.”

Earlier this week, after months of speculation, it was confirmed that Racing Point would not be retaining Sergio Perez beyond 2020, to make way for Sebastian Vettel.

Perez said the move came as a surprise to him.

He previously said he was confident that he will still be at the Silverstone-based team for the 2021 Formula One season.

Teams which may be interested in Perez’s services – not to mention the financial backing he comes with – include the likes of Haas, Alfa Romeo, and Williams.

Red Bull could also be an option, with Alex Albon continuing to underperform relative to Max Verstappen.
