McLaren’s Oscar Piastri made a guest appearance on the fifth season of Clarkson’s Farm, and things did not go quite as planned for the Australian driver.
The 25-year-old visited Diddly Squat Farm, owned by journalist and former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, with the episode now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Piastri was welcomed by Clarkson and fan-favourite farmhand Kaleb Cooper, who has become the breakout star of the hugely popular Amazon Prime series.
The segment quickly turned comedic when Piastri was challenged to reverse a tractor, a task that proved far beyond the reach of the nine-time grand prix winner.
Cooper walked Piastri through the process of handling the unfamiliar machinery, apparently not knowing he was speaking to one of motorsport’s brightest stars.
When Cooper asked who Piastri was, Clarkson told him: “He’s a Formula 1 racing driver,” naturally leading Cooper to assume the task would be straightforward for the McLaren ace.
What followed was anything but straightforward, with Piastri wrestling at the wheel through what felt like an eternity of failed attempts.
Clarkson highlighted the irony of the situation with characteristic wit, saying: “I mean he can go through Eau Rouge flat out, it’s a corner at Spa, which is incredibly difficult and a brave thing to do…but he is from the city.”
Cooper eventually lost patience and said “We’re going to go and get a cup of tea,” to which Piastri replied: “You might as well go and have dinner.”
Clips of the moment have since been shared widely across social media, with fans delighting in seeing a world-class racing driver humbled by basic farm machinery.
Piastri repeatedly restarted his attempts but somehow ended up in a worse position each time, with the show never actually revealing a successful reverse from the McLaren star.
It is a rare reminder that even elite motorsport talent does not always translate to the broader world of driving, and Piastri can at least take comfort in being entertaining about it.
