McLaren’s Oscar Piastri is excited to return to Monaco this year, having finished on the podium in the Sprint and Feature Race during his last visit to the principality as a driver.
Driving for Prema Racing on his way to the Formula 2 title, Piastri secured P2 twice in one weekend around the iconic track, showing he has the experience to deliver around the narrow twists and turns.
Returning to Monaco in the driving seat this weekend, while unlikely that McLaren will be fighting for a podium, given their car’s performance, Piastri will be hoping that he will have a strong outing, aiming for a top ten finish.
So far this season, Piastri has only managed to secure one points finish at his home race in Australia, aided by multiple DNFs, including both Alpines.

“Preparation for the race has gone well with plenty of simulator work and I’m learning more and more in every session behind the wheel,” Piastri told reporters ahead of the weekend.
“As a team, we are fully focused on making the steps forward to develop more performance out of the car.
“I’m looking forward to this weekend’s race as I return to Monaco for the first time since my double podium during the 2021 F2 Championship.
“It will be an interesting and enjoyable challenge to tackle the Monte Carlo circuit in an F1 car.”

The challenging performance of the McLaren this year has sparked frustration at the team, as it leaves them far away from fighting for a title.
Heading into Monaco, McLaren are sat in P5 of the Constructors’ Standings, tied with Alpine on 14 points, over 110 behind title-leaders Red Bull.
McLaren’s best performance so far came in Australia, with Piastri finishing in P8 and Lando Norris in P6, scooping 12 points.
