Lewis Hamilton’s contract with the Mercedes F1 Team is set to expire in a matter of weeks, but the Silver Arrows have hinted that a new deal will be announced imminently.
On Thursday evening, Mercedes tweeted a recent remark made by Hamilton about his intention to stay with the team and suggested an extension would be announced soon.
Meanwhile, other media outlets have reported that Lewis Hamilton is close to signing a £40 million a year deal with Mercedes, as he looks to continue his run of dominance with the Silver Arrows beyond 2020.
After the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton said his contract extension talks with the team will “hopefully” start over the coming weeks, adding, “we’d love to get it done before Christmas I think.”
Continuing, he said: “I plan to be here next year, I want to be here next year. I think us as a team have more to do together, more to achieve both in the sport and even more outside the sport.
“So yeah, I hope we can begin this week discussions and hopefully get it tied up before Christmas.”
