Max Verstappen’s Touching Handbag Promise To Sister Victoria Goes Viral Again

Following Victoria Verstappen’s recent wedding, a heartwarming clip of Max Verstappen has resurfaced across social media platforms, capturing the imagination of fans worldwide.

The clip shows Verstappen recounting a promise he made to his younger sister Victoria at the very beginning of his Formula 1 career, back when both siblings were still teenagers.

Verstappen made his F1 debut at just 17 years of age, meaning Victoria was only 15 at the time, and the two were regularly accompanied by their father Jos Verstappen and mother Sophie Kumpen.

The four-time world champion scored his first ever championship point at the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix during his debut season with Toro Rosso, a moment that proved expensive for the young Dutchman.

In the now-viral clip, Verstappen explains that he had made Victoria a promise before the season began, one that came back to him the instant he crossed the line in Malaysia.

“15 years old and the funny thing was at the beginning of the season I promised her a handbag when I scored my first point so that happened in Malaysia and that was the first thing that I was thinking about when I crossed the line,” Verstappen said.

“‘Ok, now I have to buy my sister a handbag’.”

The clip then cuts to Victoria herself, who reflects warmly on the gesture and what the bag has come to mean to her over the years since that landmark race.

“The most emotional piece in my closet is the piece that I got from my brother when he scored his first point in Malaysia,” Victoria reveals.

“He promised to buy me a bag. Actually, I don’t really use the bag a lot anymore, but I love having it in my closet as some sort of emotional value. And then when you see it again, I think that’s nice.”

The resurfacing of the clip comes after Victoria’s recent wedding, which Verstappen attended alongside his partner Kelly Piquet and their baby daughter Lily Verstappen-Piquet, making it a particularly poignant family occasion.

It represents a remarkable journey for both siblings, who have grown from teenagers navigating the early stages of Max’s F1 career into adults with families of their own in their late twenties.

Verstappen has since gone on to become one of the most decorated drivers in Formula 1 history, claiming four world championships and firmly cementing his place among the sport’s all-time greats.

Yet it is this small, personal moment from the very beginning of that journey that continues to resonate deeply with fans, serving as a reminder of the human side behind one of motorsport’s biggest stars.
