Max Verstappen Wants Red Bull To Fire Albon, Sign Nico Hulkenberg

Verstappen previously said he isn’t bothered by who is driving the second Red Bull.

With Alex Albon’s seat at Red Bull looking increasingly under threat, Max Verstappen has reportedly told the team he would like Nico Hulkenberg to be his team-mate next year.

The De Telegraaf newspaper reports that Verstappen is keen for Red Bull to sign Hulkenberg, as he wants a rear-gunner in his fight against Mercedes.

Meanwhile, Helmut Marko, the head of Red Bull’s driver development programme, has said they are aware of Verstappen’s preference but didn’t specify who he wants his team-mate to be.

“We also ask Max for his opinion on the driver question. We know his opinion too.

“But whether a driver can speak Dutch [like Hulkenberg can] is not decisive, because the team language is English,” he added.

In a previous interview, Verstappen said he isn’t bothered by who is driving the second Red Bull, but noted that the team had already asked him for his opinion.
