Max Verstappen to benefit from ‘lifetime guarantee’

Max Verstappen has been in imperious form this year and is almost certain to win the championship.

It’s been revealed by Sky reporter Craig Slater that Max Verstappen will receive a new trophy for winning last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, after Lando Norris broke the original.

The reigning World Champion cruised to victory at the Hungaroring after finishing the race almost 34 seconds ahead of Norris, who claimed a second consecutive P2 finish.

Verstappen took the lead of the race at the opening corner following a solid start, with the Dutchman having never looked back.

His win marked his seventh in a row and his ninth overall for 2023, whilst it also represented a record-breaking 12 in a row for Red Bull.

Red Bull have now won more consecutive races than any team in the history of the sport, having eclipsed McLaren’s 11 wins in a row from 1988.

It’s a huge achievement for the Milton Keynes-based team, who’ll be delighted that Verstappen is getting a new trophy.

Verstappen’s winning trophy was broken by Norris after he attempted his trademark champagne celebration, which knocked it onto the floor.

The trophy shattered into several pieces when it landed, much to the duo’s disbelief.

To make things worse, it was revealed that he trophies for the Hungarian GP were all handmade and worth around €40,000.

However, because they all possess a “lifetime replacement guarantee”, Verstappen will receive a new trophy to replace the broken one.

“Lando Norris opening his champagne bottle by smashing it down on the podium and damaging that trophy, which is one of the most beautiful of the year,” Slater said on Sky Sports News.

“It’s a handmade piece of porcelain worth in the region of 40,000 euros but there’s breaking news and it’s good news for Max Verstappen.

“The chief executive of Herendi (the company which makes the trophies) has just released this statement.

“While they are sad about the damage, they are recreating the broken trophy of the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix winner Max Verstappen as there is a lifetime replacement guarantee for all their products.”

Norris and Verstappen comically went back-and-forth in the media pen and on social media after the race, as they threw the blame at one another.
