Max Verstappen comments on marrying his girlfriend

Max Verstappen has opened up on his relationship with Kelly Piquet and whether proposing is on the cards.

Max Verstappen has refused to admit whether he’s considered proposing to long-term girlfriend Kelly Piquet, who he went public with at the start of 2021.

Piquet, the daughter of three-time Formula 1 World Champion Nelson Piquet, is often seen in the paddock cheering on her partner, who she also lives with.

Verstappen and Piquet live together in Monaco, as does Piquet’s daughter, Penelope.

Penelope’s father is actually ex-F1 driver Daniil Kvyat, who Verstappen replaced at Red Bull back at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.

Verstappen seems to have a very strong bond with Penelope, who often appears in his Twitch streams whilst he’s racing in his simulator.

The Dutch driver and Piquet are clearly very close, although marriage is seemingly yet to cross his mind.

He was pressured into answering whether a future wedding is on the agenda, something the 26-year-old refused to answer.

“Marry? Me? Now you’ve publicly pressured me into saying a date,” Verstappen jokingly told Blick.

“I don’t know, time will tell. Right now, I’m very, very happy with Kelly. But personally I don’t have a schedule for when I’m going to get down on one knee in front of her. It’s all supposed to happen spontaneously.”

Verstappen continued to be asked about whether he wants to propose to his partner and whether he’d get down on one knee whilst still competing in F1.

Given that he’s under contract until the end of 2028, Verstappen would be at least 31 years old if he opted to propose after calling his F1 career to an end.

He also refused to answer if he’s waiting for his F1 career to be over first before proposing, and admitted that he’ll do it they “feel like” it.

“As I said, I don’t know,” Verstappen insisted. “The right day will come when we feel like we are stamping our relationship on paper as well.”

With the F1 calendar being so demanding nowadays, Verstappen would do extremely well to find anytime to propose to Piquet, especially with the 2024 season set to be the longest in the sport’s history.

24 races are scheduled for next year, with pre-season testing in Bahrain also taking place earlier than usual.
