‘Mature’ Alonso Less Difficult To Work With – Ex-F1 Champion

Fernando Alonso is less difficult to work with and have as a team-mate now that he has matured, according to Damon Hill.

Alonso publicly fell out with McLaren and Sir Lewis Hamilton when they were team-mates in 2007, and he has often been considered difficult to work with.

However, after returning to the sport at the start of 2021, many in the F1 paddock consider the double World Champion to be much easier to work with.

Hill said that Alonso would be towards the very top of his list of preferred team-mates at the moment, but he stressed that this wouldn’t be the case if the Spaniard was a decade or so younger.

“I have to say Fernando Alonso has got to be right up there on my list of chosen team-mates at the moment,” Hill said on the F1 Nation podcast.

“Of course, Esteban Ocon was singing his praises after the Hungarian Grand Prix and saying what a great lad he is to work with.

“I would think that, when he was very much younger and extremely quick and competitive, he may have been a little bit more difficult to work with, but we all live, learn and grow up.

“The mature Fernando Alonso would have to be right up there on the list,” he added.
