Senior Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko has joked that the Milton Keynes-based team was worried that Max Verstappen’s stricken car would end up at Ferrari’s base in Maranello after it suffered a reliability issue during Free Practice Two (FP2) at Imola.
After his car’s driveshaft broke during the session, Verstappen parked just after the pitlane exit.

The position of the car made it difficult for the marshals to recover, so the RB16B was placed onto a flatbed truck and was returned to Red Bull after going on the public roads that surround the Imola circuit.
“The car only made it back to the paddock via a lot of detours. We thought it might go to Maranello,” Dr Marko joked.
As a result of the Red Bull being recovered in such a fashion, certain parts of the car which are usually concealed were on display for other teams to see.
