Lewis Hamilton committed to Mercedes beyond 2023

Lewis Hamilton has said he is committed to Mercedes far beyond 2023.

Currently in the sixteenth year of his Formula 1 career, Lewis Hamilton’s move from McLaren to Mercedes will go down as one of the best decisions in the history of the sport.

Since joining the team to replace Michael Schumacher, the Stevenage born superstar has won seven world titles as a driver and contributed to eight constructors’ championship victories for the German team.

Despite sitting in sixth in the drivers’ championship this season, Hamilton is adamant that he will be staying at Mercedes even beyond next season, with there being no chance of him ending his relationship with the Silver Arrows.

“We have a lot of work to do, a lot to achieve still. So I’m not planning on going anywhere, anytime soon,” he stated.

“I’m feeling good. I love what I’m doing,” he continued.

“It’s not that I’m not sure, I know what I want to do. I plan on staying longer. It’s just not set in stone how long.”

The 103 time polesitter knows that at 37 years of age he unfortunately cannot continue to race forever, but still sees his future post-racing with Mercedes.

“I plan on staying with Mercedes for the rest of my life, that’s a definite,” he said.

“Even beyond racing I want to be building with Mercedes and there is a lot that Mercedes can do, it’s not just a car manufacturer.”

It is yet to be seen what kind of role the Brit would undertake after he closes the curtain on his driving career, but he remains impressed by how the Silver Arrows use their platform in the wider world.

“It provides so many jobs for so many people and it has such a powerful platform to really shift narratives and it has a place where it can have a really positive impact of the environment,” Hamilton explained when speaking about his eagerness to remain with the team.

“There are loads of things that we can do together and I want to be a part of that. I want to be a part of that shift and work process with Mercedes far beyond races and championships, but for now, it’s to win world championships and that’s the immediate focus.”

Mercedes and Hamilton will both be hoping for better fortunes in 2023, with the team aiming to get back to the top of the leaderboards in the near future.
