Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has expressed confidence in Lewis Hamilton’s potential success with Ferrari, following Hamilton’s high-profile move from Mercedes.
Montoya acknowledged that Hamilton might face initial challenges adapting to his new team environment, stating, “Lewis is mature enough to appreciate that in the short-term he is going to struggle a little bit, learning the Ferrari thing.”
However, he emphasized that after an adjustment period of “about six or seven races,” if Ferrari’s car proves competitive, “Lewis is going to win everything.”
Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari marks a significant shift after over a decade with Mercedes, where he secured six of his seven World Drivers’ Championships.

As the 2025 season approaches, the Australian Grand Prix will serve as Hamilton’s inaugural race with Ferrari, providing the first real measure of his integration into the team.
In the 2024 season, Ferrari emerged as a strong contender against McLaren for the World Constructors’ Championship. However, a mid-season upgrade led to issues with porpoising, hindering their progress. With the new season on the horizon, there is optimism about Ferrari’s prospects, but the true test will come as Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc begin their campaign.
While some analysts have raised concerns about Hamilton’s age and the potential for internal team dynamics, Montoya’s perspective offers a more optimistic outlook. He suggests that Hamilton’s experience and adaptability could lead to significant success once he becomes accustomed to Ferrari’s operations.
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on how quickly Hamilton can acclimate to his new surroundings and whether Ferrari can provide a car capable of competing at the highest level.
The partnership between Hamilton and Ferrari has the potential to be a formidable force in the championship, contingent on their ability to overcome initial hurdles and capitalize on their combined strengths.
