Lance Stroll slapped with two fines at 2023 Miami GP

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll has been hit with a €500 fine for speeding twice in the pit lane during Friday’s FP2 session.

Lance Stroll has been fined twice by the FIA in one session after he was recorded speeding in the pit lane on two occasions during FP2 at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix.

The Aston Martin driver was hit with the punishments, which are lighter than they would if the incident happened during qualifying or the race, for failing to slow to the appropriate speed.

The circuit, designed around the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, sees drivers exit the track into a chicane that is designed to reduce their speed.

However, the Canadian struggled on two occasions during FP2 to fall below the 80kph limit that is set for drivers when entering the pits.

According to the stewards, on the first occasion Stroll was going just 0.3 kph over the limit, while the second incident saw him clock 83.5 kph.

Stroll looking to bounce back

Aston Martin will be looking to put this minor infraction behind them in a bid to secure crucial points on Sunday, as they look to remain in P2 in the Constructors’ race.

After a strong start to the season saw Fernando Alonso secure three consecutive podiums, Aston Martin suffered a difficult weekend in Baku.

Around the street track of Azerbaijan, Alonso couldn’t compete with the Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez and the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, who shared the podium in both the Sprint race and Grand Prix.

The lapse in success for Aston Martin allowed Ferrari to close the gap in the Constructors’ race, as the Italian team looks to make a comeback after a double DNF early in the season put Leclerc on the back foot.

Stroll waiting for 2023 podium

While Alonso has been the higher point scorer for the team, Stroll has been pulling his weight, securing a string of top ten positions to help bolster Aston Martin’s position.

However, with a car that can secure a podium spot, Stroll will be looking for more than a point-scoring position, he’ll be determined to lift a trophy this season.
