The last thing you might want to do after crashing out of a Formula 1 race is face the media, however sometimes it might just cheer you up.
This was the case for Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll as he appeared in the media pen on his way back to the garage, to face questioning about his collision with Fernando Alonso that forced the Canadian out of the race.
The Canadian was asked by Rachel Brookes if he had spoken to Fernando Alonso yet about the incident, with Stroll reminding the reporter that “he’s still in the car!”
Stroll seemingly saw the funny side of the blunder, with the race still going on, Alonso had managed to come into the pits for repairs and continue, unlike Stroll.

He even joked that he could always get on the Alpine team radio if he really wanted to speak to Alonso, proving that Stroll was still in good spirits despite the DNF.
The drivers, who are soon to be teammates at Aston Martin tangled when Alonso attempted to overtake Stroll following a safety car restart.
While he did shift to the left, Stroll believes that he left more than enough room for Alonso to go past, however the Spaniard ended up driving into the back of Stroll, going up onto two wheels and colliding with the wall.

It was to the amazement of viewers that Alonso managed to continue the race, and he had initially scored points before being slapped with a 30-second penalty after the race for driving an unsafe car.
Stroll was given a penalty for causing the collision, with his protests falling on deaf ears, compounding what was a disappointing weekend for Aston Martin.
The 23-year old found himself as high as third in the early stages of the race, with teammate Sebastian Vettel not far behind him, however with Stroll’s retirement, and Vettel experiencing a problem during his final pit stop, the team will be left wondering ‘what if’, leaving the Circuit of the Americas with just a handful of points.
