Vettel Vows To Be ‘Less Nice’ After Incident With Alonso

Four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel has said he will be “less nice” following him being slapped with a grid penalty for impeding Fernando Alonso during qualifying for last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix.

The German was handed a three-place grid drop for blocking Alonso while he was on a flying lap in the dying seconds of Q2, as he had to slow down in the final sector of the circuit due to a number of cars ahead backing off to build gaps between themselves.

Vettel said he found it “weird” that he was given a penalty for the incident, and he vowed to be “less nice” to other drivers in the future.

“They said I did nothing wrong. So I don’t understand why I got a penalty, it’s a bit weird, no?” Vettel questioned.

“I think I was the only nice guy so [I’ll] probably be less nice,” he added.

After initially struggling to get to grips with his Aston Martin AMR21, Vettel has put in a series of strong performances in recent races, including a superb drive in Baku to score the newly rebranded team’s first-ever podium.

The German is currently 10th in the Drivers’ Standings on 30 points, while his team-mate, Lance Stroll, has scored a total of 14 points so far this campaign.
