How Formula 1 drivers are enjoying their summer before 2023 Dutch GP

The 2023 Dutch GP, which will take place in late August, will mark the end of Formula 1's summer break.

As Formula 1 enters its summer hiatus, drivers are taking advantage of the much-needed break to unwind, recharge, and indulge in some well-deserved leisure activities. 

After a strenuous period of races and intense competition, F1 drivers are utilising the downtime to pursue various interests, from luxurious getaways to lively festivals. 

Here’s a glimpse into how some of the sport’s stars are spending their summer interlude.

Lewis Hamilton, known for his affinity for luxury, has been soaking up the sun in style.

The seven-time world champion has been spotted on yachts and by the water. His summer journey has taken him to breathtaking locales like Jamaica and Costa Rica. 

Hamilton has shared glimpses of his vacation on Instagram, showcasing serene poolsides and stunning sea views. 

While rumours of a romance with Shakira have circulated, Hamilton’s social media updates hint at enjoying quality time with friends, including a rendezvous with aspiring tennis player Jenny Stray Spetalen and actor Eiza Gonzalez.

Hamilton’s fellow Mercedes teammate, George Russell, is also relishing the break.

Russell and his girlfriend Carmen Mundt, whom he met in 2020, embarked on family adventures, participating in water sports such as paddle boarding and jet skiing. 

Russell’s Instagram posts reflect his willingness to step out of his comfort zone and embrace new experiences. His caption reads, “A few small bruises later, we’re away!”

Max Verstappen, a standout contender for this season’s championship, has been savouring the fruits of his success. 

He ventured to Sardinia, Italy, with his girlfriend Kelly Piquet for a romantic getaway. 

The Dutch driver later joined his friends, including fellow driver Lando Norris, at the “Tomorrowland” festival, where they immersed themselves in music and camaraderie. 

Verstappen’s close connection with Norris was evident throughout the festival, as they enjoyed the performances of their friend and DJ Martin Garrix.

Lando Norris, in addition to his festival escapades, has been making the most of his summer. 

He delighted fans by sharing a video of himself leaping off a yacht into the sea. 

The McLaren driver also spent quality time with his family, enjoying the finer things in life. 

Norris comes from a well-off background, and his posts showcase the perfect blend of hard work and leisure.

Daniel Ricciardo, despite his transition back into racing action, has maintained his social ties. 

The affable Australian bumped into Russell while attending a performance by DJ Martin Garrix, further cementing the camaraderie among F1 drivers. 

Ricciardo’s jovial presence and friendly nature were evident in the festival atmosphere.

Pierre Gasly and his girlfriend Francisca Gomes have been basking in the sun and relishing the coastal vistas of Portugal. 

The couple’s summer escapades included savouring ice creams and engaging in rounds of golf. 

Gasly also stayed dedicated to fitness, sharing glimpses of his gym workouts on Instagram. 

His vacation was punctuated by recharging with friends in the stunning Algavre region.
