After putting in a strong qualifying performance on Saturday, Carlos Sainz cut his race short by crashing into the barrier at the exit of turn two on the opening lap of the Russian Grand Prix.
The Spaniard took full responsibility for the shunt and vowed to make amends at the upcoming Eifel Grand Prix.

McLaren team-mate Lando Norris was unimpressed with Sainz after watching him crash out of the race and force the Brit to drive over debris which fell off his car.
“What’s Carlos doing? He’s trying to be a hero into turn one,” Norris said on the radio following the crash.
Norris stopped for tyres under the safety car following the incident, and he also had a race to forget, finishing well outside the points.
McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl described the race as “very disappointing” and said they will be looking to put in a strong performance in Germany, when Formula One returns to the Nurburgring in a fortnight.
“It’s a very disappointing Sunday afternoon for us, coming away from Russia with zero points,” Seidl said.
“Our race was pretty much over after two corners, with Carlos running into the barriers and then Lando having to take avoiding action, finishing up at the back of the field.”
