Happy birthday, Bono! Fans praise Hamilton’s race engineer as he turns 57

Peter Bonnington has worked as Sir Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer ever since the Brit joined Mercedes from McLaren in 2013.

The Formula 1 community has been wishing Peter Bonnington, Sir Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer, a happy birthday today.

Bonnington, better known as Bono, turns 57 today – and many fans of Hamilton and Mercedes took to Twitter to wish him a happy birthday.

F1 spectators also took the opportunity to praise Bonnington and hail his working relationship with Hamilton.

One social media user described him as the “best race engineer” in Formula 1, while another posted a compilation of him saying “get in there, Lewis,” as he congratulates the seven-time world champion on winning a number of grand prix.

Hundreds of others simply wished Bonnington a happy birthday and said they are looking forward to seeing him working with Hamilton again in 2022.

Bonnington has worked as Hamilton’s race engineer ever since the 37-year-old joined Mercedes from McLaren in 2013.

The Silver Arrows driver has won six of his seven world titles with Bonnington as his race engineer, and the pair are set to continue to work together this upcoming season.

Following his controversial championship defeat to Max Verstappen in December, it had been speculated that Hamilton was considering retiring from the pinnacle of motorsport.

However, in recent weeks, Mercedes have hinted that he will continue to race with them in 2022, and Hamilton is set to publicly announce his decision next week.
