FIA Set August 25 Hearing Date As Monaco Grand Prix Result Faces Another Change

The 2026 Monaco Grand Prix result remains in flux, with the FIA confirming a fresh hearing at its Paris headquarters will take place next Tuesday, August 25.

Both Red Bull and McLaren have lodged appeals against the stewards’ decisions that ultimately saw Pierre Gasly restored to the podium after his original penalties were rescinded.

The hearing will be held at 0900 local French time at FIA headquarters in place de la Concorde in Paris, adding yet another chapter to one of the most drawn-out controversies of the season.

The saga began at the Monaco race itself, when a string of drivers received time penalties for pitlane speeding in the principality during the race.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was hit hardest, collecting two five-second time penalties that dropped him from third place on the podium all the way down to seventh.

Gasly described the outcome as heartbreaking, and Alpine wasted no time in pursuing every available avenue to challenge the decisions.

The key breakthrough came when Formula One Management revealed that the distance used for calculating official speeds was “inaccurate and overestimated the speed” Gasly was travelling at.

Armed with that significant new evidence, Alpine successfully appealed the penalties, and Gasly was restored to third place on the podium as a result.

The revised classification pushed Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar down to fourth and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri to fifth, prompting both teams to launch their own appeals before the International Court of Appeal.

The official FIA statement confirmed that the stewards had originally penalised Gasly for recorded speeds of 60.1 km/h and 60.4 km/h in breach of Article B1.6.3a of the 2026 FIA Formula One Regulations.

The stewards later determined on June 12 that a significant and relevant new element had been unavailable to them at the time of their original decisions, leading them to rescind both five-second penalties.

Both Red Bull and McLaren officially lodged their appeals on June 16, setting in motion the process that has now led to next Tuesday’s International Court of Appeal hearing.

As things stand, the current 2026 Monaco Grand Prix classification shows Kimi Antonelli winning for Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton second for Ferrari and Gasly third for Alpine.

The outcome of next week’s hearing in Paris could yet change those standings once more, keeping the entire paddock on edge until a final resolution is reached.
