Ferrari misses out as 80,000 fans vote for the best livery of 2023

Haas became the first team to unveil their 2023 livery whilst Alpine were the last, with all the teams now preparing for pre-season testing on Thursday.

With the 2023 launch season having already come and gone, Formula1.com carried out a vote to see which livery the fans love most ahead of the forthcoming season, with there being a unanimous winner.

It seems like only yesterday that Haas kicked-off launch season, with all 10 teams having now shown to the world the livery that they’ll be using for 2023.

Alpine, of course, unveiled two liveries like they did last season, with the Enstone-based side using a predominantly pink livery for the first three rounds due to an obligation in their contract with title partner BWT.

Over 80,000 people took part in the vote, with Formula1.com having since revealed the top five.

In fifth place with seven percent of the votes, is Aston Martin, after the Silverstone-based team unveiled effectively the same livery for the second consecutive season; however, it’s still a stunner!

In fourth, somewhat surprisingly, is Red Bull, who are another side who as usual, made very few changes to their famous livery, enough to gain them eight percent of the votes.

Third went to Alfa Romeo, who did reveal a very different livery for 2023.

The Hinwil-based side have ditched their red and white look for dark red and black, with the black likely to have no paint on it in order to save weight.

Nevertheless, their sharp design received 15-percent of the votes, enough for a pre-season rostrum.

Missing out on the top was Ferrari, with the Italians having received 19-percent of the vote for their typically stylish design.

To no surprise, the winners with 31-percent of the votes were Mercedes, who have returned to black for 2023, having run a silver design last season.

The Silver Arrows’ design is stunning and incredibly smart, with the team set to use minimal paint given that the carbon is already black.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff discussed the livery at the team’s launch, with the Austrian stating that “there is a lot of excitement” within the Brackley-based team.

“It looks good, and I’m so happy that we’ve gone back also to the black livery,” said Wolff, as reported by Formula1.com.

“Is she going to be as fast as she looks? I hope so, but definitely there is a lot of excitement in putting the car finally on the road.

“When you look at where the story of the Silver Arrows came from, it’s that the Mercedes was put on track – the race car, it was white, overweight, a little bit of our story last year – and they scratched off the paint, and it ended up with bare aluminium, and the car made the weight.

“So we came back, we really tried to get the weight off the car in every single bit and therefore on the paint side we committed in gaining the grams by leaving the car matte carbon, and history repeats itself. Just in this case it’s a modern material, carbon, and not aluminium, and it’s black.

“And on top of that, we knew why we had a black car two years ago and it just came together… The main driving factor was to support the diversity and equality causes which are always close to our heart. The colour black became part of our DNA at that point, so we are pleased to return to it.”
