Fernando Alonso tipped to win a third F1 title

Giancarlo Fisichella, who partnered Fernando Alonso at Renault, believes the Spaniard is as strong as ever despite being the oldest driver on the grid.

With Aston Martin soaring up the grid this season, Fernando Alonso has been thrust into the 2023 title race, sitting just 44 points behind title leader Max Verstappen.

Having secured four podiums in five races, taking P3 in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Miami, Alonso is showing that he is as strong as ever.

Alonso’s former teammate Giancarlo Fishichella, who partnered the Spaniard during his championship winning years at Renault, believes that the Aston Martin driver has the capability of winning another world title.

Even when Alonso failed to get on the podium in Azerbaijan, he showed he can still fight at the front, missing out on P3 by less than one second.

While Alonso is the oldest driver on the grid, Fisichella believes that the Spaniard is only getting better with age and experience.

“I think Fernando, with a good car, can win another championship,” Fisichella told Sky Sports News.

“Fernando is getting older but getting quicker, I don’t know how he can do it!

“We won the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships together for Renault. It was fantastic to work with him. I’m happy for him to be in this shape and scoring these podiums race after race.”
