Fernando Alonso is riding high in Formula 1 again, over 15 years since he last won a Drivers’ Championship.
As the oldest driver on the grid at the age of 41, questions have been swirling over how long Alonso will remain in the sport.
Despite his age, Alonso appears to have no interest in slowing down, having even recently hinted that he believes a third world championship is achievable with his new team Aston Martin.
“Right now I don’t know,” Alonso told L’Equipe, when asked about his future.

“I’m not going to lie – when I came back, I was scared. But now I know that I’m even better than when I left.”
“I don’t know if I will sign another contract,” Alonso was reported as saying by Marca, “but if it happens, I know it will be here.”
Alonso is on a multi-year deal with Aston Martin that is thought to last until 2024. The comments from the Spaniard seem to suggest he is considering extending that into 2025 and potentially beyond.
The Spanish driver is showing that he is still in the prime of his career, fighting for podiums and putting himself in the title fight, only 24 points behind leading driver Max Verstappen.
Alonso’s strong performance has powered Aston Martin’s seventh place finish in last year’s Constructors’ race to their current P2 position in the 2023 season.
With an extended gap between race weekends in Australian and Azerbaijan, teams are back at their home bases, perfecting their set ups.

“I always prefer to race,” Alonso said.
“But I guess I’ll be at the factory a lot. We’ll use the time to better prepare for the next race and review what happened in the first three.
“In my case, it’s a new team so there’s a couple of things that we want to review.
“So, yes, it’s fine, but it’s better to do it on a race track,” he said.
