Ex-F1 driver explains bizarre transition to music

Former Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari is now a DJ and music producer - a career path Lewis Hamilton may follow.

Sometimes the Formula 1 dream does not quite go to plan, with the extremely competitive sport only allowing 20 drivers on the grid at a time.

Former Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersauri’s F1 career looked to be going perfectly however, with the Spaniard even being linked with a move to Red Bull at one point in his career.

The Spaniard raced in F1 between 2009 and 2011, becoming the youngest ever Formula 1 driver when he made his debut in Hungary at the age of 17.

Alguersuari eventually departed F1 in 2011 as Toro Rosso decided to make a change and after a brief stint racing in Formula E, the Spaniard made a bizarre transition to become a DJ and music producer.

While ditching motorsport for music may seem like a big decision to make, Alguersuari has claimed that it was a no-brainer for him.

“It was a very simple call,” he told Daily Star Sport.

“At a certain point I wasn’t having fun anymore. I wasn’t really into racing anymore. I was in Formula E and the season didn’t go well.

“It was the first season of the of the championship, my car had many problems and I wasn’t really enjoying driving at all.

“I thought if I have to choose between music and racing, I’d rather go into my music now rather than continuing to do something without love and passion and wait until I’m 45 when it’ll be too late for music.”

Alguersuari has said that the process of making music is something that he really enjoys, with this chapter of his life being something that he is really happy with.

“At some point six or seven years ago I thought I’m really going to give it. Ago because I love this and enjoy making music, the whole process is amazing. It’s like going into a third dimension, it’s very difficult to describe because art is very different to racing,” he explained.

“Creating something out of nothing and making it work, signing it to a record label and seeing other people that you don’t know enjoy it and seeing the project working is cool and amazing. I am enjoying the whole process, it’s really nice to see a different chapter in you life.”

Since switching his attention to music, Alguersauri has performed at a number of festivals and events and while many F1 drivers dream of winning a championship, the Spaniard has admitted that his dream is to perform at Glastonbury.
