Button Calls For Luca Corberi To Be Banned From Motorsport

Button described Corberi’s behaviour as “disgusting”.

2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button has called for 23-year-old kart racer Luca Corberi to be handed a lifetime ban for endangering a fellow competitor.

The incident took place at the KZ, KZ2 and Academy finals at Lonato on Sunday.

Corberi retired from the race and proceeded to throw a piece of bodywork onto the circuit, trying to hit Paolo Ippolito’s kart.

And, after the race, he and his father physically assaulted Ippolito.

This prompted Button to call for Corberi to be handed a lifetime ban.

“Luca Corberi has just destroyed any chance he had at a racing career after his disgusting behaviour today at the FIA Karting World Champs,” Button tweeted.

“His father owns the circuit and is seen power driving the guy into a wall. Life ban for both of these idiots please.”

Both drivers were subsequently suspended from the race, but many other current and former high-profile racing drivers have also called for the 23-year-old to be penalised further.

However, at this point, it’s not clear what level of punishment is likely to be deemed sufficient.
