2020 was a difficult year for Sebastian Vettel, with the four-time World Champion struggling to get to grips with the uncompetitive Ferrari SF1000 and relations with the Scuderia breaking down at a few points in the season.

Vettel will be looking forward to having a clean slate with Aston Martin Racing, and the team’s technical director, Andy Green, is optimistic about the value the German can add.

“Everyone knows how good Sebastian is,” Green said this week.

“You have to have the right car and the right people around you. We can give him what he needs to get back to the level we know and expect from him.

“The fact that a multiple World Champion gets into our car is valuable to the people who work here. A year-and-a-half ago we went bankrupt, we shouldn’t exist anymore.

“And now someone like Vettel wants to drive for us. Together we are going to gain new experiences and ideas about the development of the car,” he added.

Racing Point, which will be rebranded Aston Martin Racing in 2021, narrowly missed out on third place in the 2020 F1 Constructors’ Championship, but there was nevertheless many positives to take away.

And, with Sebastian Vettel’s experience coupled with a fairer distribution of prize money and the financial backing of Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, the team will be looking to emerge from the midfield over the coming seasons.
