Kimi Antonelli has been confirmed with a 30-place grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza, his home race on the 2026 calendar.
The Mercedes driver heads to the back of the grid after exceeding his annual power unit allotment, a fate that had been widely anticipated ahead of the weekend.
Antonelli currently leads the Formula 1 World Championship, making the timing of the penalty particularly costly from a title perspective.
Meanwhile, Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar is reportedly almost certain to miss the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix due to the ongoing effects of a wrist injury.
The Frenchman fractured his wrist during a training session and missed F1’s post-summer break return at Zandvoort, and is also absent from the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.
With the Spanish Grand Prix approaching next weekend, Hadjar faces a significant race against time to prove his fitness before the event gets underway.
Elsewhere, the Monaco Grand Prix result has been altered for the second time this season, with Pierre Gasly losing his podium finish for Alpine in the revised standings.
Gasly had originally crossed the line third in Monaco back in June, but a post-race penalty dropped him to seventh, with Isack Hadjar inheriting the final podium position behind winner Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton in second.
Alpine team boss Flavio Briatore has reacted furiously to the FIA Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold the Monaco penalties against Gasly, seemingly questioning the fairness of the process given an acknowledged error in the pitlane speed detectors.
