Alonso Warns Hamilton Will Crack Under Pressure Against Verstappen

Fernando Alonso warned that Sir Lewis Hamilton will “get into trouble” as a result of the pressure he is under.

Double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso has said he expects Sir Lewis Hamilton to crack under pressure against Max Verstappen.

Alonso, a former team-mate of Hamilton’s in their McLaren days, said he “100 percent” thinks the seven-time World Champion will succumb to pressure against the Dutch ace this season.

Hamilton and Verstappen have been locked in a season-long fight for the 2021 WDC, and with five rounds of the Championship remaining, the Brit trails the Red Bull driver by 12 points.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix, Alonso gave his take on the Championship battle.

“Do I think Lewis will succumb to the pressure? Yes, thanks to Max. 100 percent,” said Alonso.

Continuing, the Spaniard said: “When Lewis only has to fight with his team-mate Valtteri Bottas for the title, everything is great. Now he feels some pressure and he gets into trouble.”

“Then you see during this season that that British machine starts running again,” Alonso added, once again suggesting that British drivers receive favourable treatment in Formula 1.

“Max handles that very well. It’s a very interesting championship, also off the track,” he concluded.
