Lando Norris has signed a new long-term contract extension with McLaren, keeping the reigning Formula 1 world champion at the team until at least 2030.
The announcement was made on Saturday morning, with McLaren confirming the deal also includes multi-year options that could extend Norris’ stay even further beyond the current agreement.
In a poignant touch, Norris personally delivered the news to Woking factory staff during the team’s annual family and friends open day, underlining his deep connection to the organisation.
“McLaren is my home, and I’m very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030,” said Norris, who has spent his entire F1 career with the papaya squad.
Norris spoke openly about the ambitions that have driven his partnership with McLaren, stating: “When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve: to get McLaren back to the front and to win championships.”
The 26-year-old acknowledged that while key goals have already been met, the hunger for more success remains firmly intact within the team.
“We’ve achieved that goal, but we want more, we want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we’re capable of achieving it,” Norris added.
His previous contract was set to expire at the end of 2027, meaning the new agreement effectively adds at least four more years to his time in Woking.
Norris has been in fine form throughout 2026, capitalising on McLaren’s car upgrades to win the last two grands prix in Hungary and the Netherlands.
As an additional gesture to mark the occasion, Norris was also gifted his championship-winning 2025 car, the MCL39, a fitting tribute to a title-winning season.
Team principal Andrea Stella expressed his delight at securing Norris for the foreseeable future, describing him as far more than just a fast driver.
“He is an exceptional driver, someone who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to McLaren, but above all, he is a special human being who is valued by everyone in the team,” Stella said.
Stella highlighted the continuity the deal brings, adding that with both Norris and Oscar Piastri, McLaren boasts one of the strongest and most united driver partnerships in the paddock.
CEO Zak Brown also reflected on Norris’ remarkable journey through McLaren’s junior programme, which began back in 2017 before his promotion to a race seat in 2019.
“His journey with the team is a fantastic example of our commitment to identifying, developing and supporting world-class talent, and his achievements speak for themselves,” Brown said.
Brown pointed to McLaren’s transformation as a collective achievement, crediting Norris alongside Andrea Stella, Oscar Piastri, and the wider team for delivering back-to-back constructors’ titles in 2024 and 2025 as well as the drivers’ championship.
Norris has now amassed 13 grand prix wins, 18 pole positions, and 48 podiums across his career, all achieved exclusively in McLaren machinery.
With teammate Piastri contracted until the end of 2028, McLaren now boasts one of the most stable and formidable driver line-ups in the entire field heading into the coming seasons.
