Cadillac Formula 1 has confirmed Marcin Budkowski as its new team principal, replacing Graeme Lowdon who had held the position since December 2024.
Budkowski, 49, brings over 25 years of experience within the Formula 1 world championship to his new role at the American outfit.
The French-educated Pole began his career as an aerodynamicist, working at Prost, Ferrari and McLaren before moving into a senior position within the FIA’s F1 technical department.
Following his time at the FIA, Budkowski joined the Renault squad as executive director, sharing team principal duties alongside Davide Brivio during the 2021 season.
Since leaving Renault, Budkowski has been involved in consulting and punditry work before securing this high-profile return to a frontline F1 team.
“Cadillac Formula 1 Team has an extraordinary foundation and ambition,” Budkowski said, outlining his vision for the squad’s future direction.
“My focus will be on aligning our people, tools and information flow so the right decisions are made quickly, and the performance of the car improves every time we go racing.”
Budkowski confirmed his tenure would begin immediately, stating it is “a privilege to be leading Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s on-track efforts, starting in Zandvoort next weekend.”
Cadillac currently sits last in the constructors’ standings and is yet to score its maiden Formula 1 world championship points since joining the grid as a new constructor.
The team is also in the process of finalising new infrastructure in Indiana, meaning Budkowski arrives during a critical period of organisational and competitive development.
CEO Dan Towriss praised the appointment, stating that “Marcin brings exceptional F1 experience, technical expertise and strategic leadership that will strengthen our organisation.”
Towriss made clear the team’s ambitions extend well beyond simple participation, saying “our goal has not been simply to participate in Formula 1, but to build a next-generation team capable of competing at the very front.”
Lowdon, who played a key role in establishing the team from scratch, was thanked warmly by Towriss for his contributions during the build-up phase of the project.
“His contributions helped establish a strong foundation in our build-up phase, and we thank him for his commitment and wish him well,” Towriss said of the departing team principal.
